On June 5, 2025, a conference on the topic “Environmental well-being – an important condition for development” was held in Osaka at the pavilion Turkmenistan within EXPO-2025. The event was timed to the World Environment Day celebrated.
The event was attended by Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Japan A.Bayramov, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as senior officials of the World Expo and visitors of the pavilion.
During their speeches, the conference participants noted that Turkmenistan fully supports the efforts of the international community in introducing environmentally friendly technologies to protect the environment, and the issues of combating climate change are among the priorities.
As an example it was emphasized that the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov announced the joining of the country to the Global Methane Pledge during the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Dubai in December 2023. The country continues to develop the necessary legal framework to stimulate the introduction of low-carbon technologies. Turkmenistan continues to cooperate with international organizations and partner countries for practical implementation of the Global Methane Pledge.
It was also noted that during the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Japan in April 2025, meetings were held where the parties supported efforts to cooperate on energy transition and signed relevant documents. Thus, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and Chuo University on cooperation using the Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite (GOSAT) was signed in the framework of the visit of the President of Turkmenistan.
It is worthwhile to note that the representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan participated in the International Conference on Assessment of Greenhouse Gas Emissions based on GOSAT held in Tokyo in February 2025.
